What is Communications Technology? Well, to sum it up, Comm Tech is a project-based course which covers a variety of media forms in a creative computer lab environment. What does that mean? It means fun opportunities to manipulate images in Photoshop, create illustrations and animations, learn how to do some graphic design, produce videos, take photos, and record audio files.
Look around and you'll find out that Communications Technology affects all aspects of our every day lives. That means that having an understanding of Comm Tech is an important part of being both technologically and media literate. The skills developed in these courses can be applied to any career path you might be considering.
At Maxwell Heights, Communications Technology can be taken in Grades 10, 11, and 12. These are broad-based courses which means they cover a wide range of topics over the course of a semester.
Units of study can include:
- Designing Computer Graphics
- Digital Imaging and Photo Manipulation (Photoshop)
- Digital Photography
- Video Production
- Audio Editing
- Animation
- Interactive New Media and the Web
Comm Tech courses give you the opportunity to learn how to use a
variety of software applications such as:
- Photoshop
- Illustrator
- InDesign
- Premiere
- Animate
- After Effects
(just to name a few)
More specific emphasis courses are also available in the areas of:
- Video Production (Gr. 11 & 12)
- Photography (Gr. 11)
